GOSHA RUBCHINSKIY SS17

Gosha Rubchinskiy is starting to become one of my favourite designers. Yesterday is presented his latest SS collection in Florence, in an abandoned warehouse (that's what I like so much about his collections, there's no airs, it's just cool). In this collection there are collaborations with Fila and Kappa and Sergio Tacchini.

I loved the way it's been styled, the location and sportswear brand collaborations. There's an edit below of my favourite pieces and looks. There was also a short film that accompanied the show which you should definitely watch by clicking here.

Yeezy | Fenty

Yeezy Season 3 @ Madison Square Garden
Lately you can see a lot more celebrities breaking into the fashion industry and growing their brand into collections, like Kanye West, who managed to create a range and show it at Fashion Week. People that don't have respect for this I don't understand. Having fame and going on to gain not commercial success but be accepted professionally and creatively by an industry like fashion can't be easy.

I went to watch Kanye's show live streamed from Madison Square Garden, and I loved the spectacle and passion behind it, and how it synced with the release of The Life of Pablo.

Personally I thought that the Season 3 show was brilliant. The designs were really good, the distressed knitwear that was featured were my favourites. The internet ripped it though, so many memes! But some of the most respected designers have collections/pieces just as distressed and have openly said they were inspired by the homeless. Anna Wintour calling it 'migrant chic' wasn't cool though haha.

If I were to buy/be able to afford any of the pieces my first pick would be one of the black distressed jumpers. I like that it's been a carry through piece through the collections. I also like the pieces are simple and basics, things are often over done. I like the simplicity.

When Rihanna became the creative director of Womenswear for Puma last year I was excited because she would be breathing new life into the brand. The creeper trainers I loved and the ready to wear collection that showed last month was SO GOOD. It's gothic, nineties, monotone, everything I'm all over.

Rihanna FENTY
I think that personalities and creatives like Kanye and Rihanna being in fashion is a great thing. They're bringing excitement and designs that are more street inspired clothes to an industry that began to look stale and repetitive to me, if you focus on the mainstream. It seems to me that they are more in tune with what people really want, where a lot of big fashion houses only make clothes and trends that don't appeal to a mass, but that is how and why they are an elite fashion brand. So it's making fashion a more inclusive industry, which can't be a bad thing.

Street-Lux Feature

For her final year project my friend Zoe is creating a blog/zine showcasing her designs and other fashion and lifestyle things that she's been doing. She's working with photographers in London, and other places, and stylists and I've been lucky enough to feature in it.

Her full work will be available soon on street-lux.tumblr.com

SUPREME | Paris Video

The Supreme Paris shop launch was quite a while ago. I think like the beginning of April, but lets take a minute to appreciate how good the video for the Paris store was, directed by William Strobeck, so Larry Clark - Kids esc. The full video is below.

UNI: Queen of Indigo

I'm in my second year of uni at Manchester Metropolitan studying Fashion Buying and Merchandising, which it says  in the bio. For one of the modules I'm studying we were assessed by creating an innovative idea in fashion and then building a brand around this to later show case. The innovative technology I built my brand on was water resistant denim, and the brand created I named Queen of Indigo.

RANGE TAKEN FROM MY PORTFOLIO OF WORK
I know water proof denim technology is being used by industry currently but from research I found that the products being made were all practical, with not much attention being made to trends therefore excluding the more fashion focused consumer. This is what my brand would be focusing on, practical technology but for a fashion conscious consumer. I did a lot of trend analysis for my portfolio of work, I also concentrated on looking at street wear trends. This is because I believe that it's an area that doesn't cater well for women even though it's a big trend. As well it is a style and area I love so enjoyed putting that into my work.

HETTY DOUGLAS ARTWORK
I wanted to subtly bring in the forecasted colour trends for denim through the use of patches and this could also be used to brand the products without it being overbearing. As well as looking at the forecasts predicted by WGSN I took inspiration from Hetty Douglas' artwork. Personally I really like her work but she is the only woman working for Supreme, or one of the only woman, according to an I-D article. That's why I thought it was kind of appropriate to incorporate her artwork, just in colours etc. Which you can see if you look at the badge work and stencils.

In the silhouettes of the products I wanted to make sure it was relaxed in fit, which was predicted by WGSN to be a key fit in denim it is also typically of streetwear brands. This is mostly because it's target audience is more male than female. This is why I looked a lot at street wear and street style when designing the range.

Intro

I've been posting on this blog for a few years but never really committed. I would post, change my mind, then delete it all every few months. But I need/want a place to share and showcase my work etc. so I'm trying again. With a primary focus on fashion, that is what I am studying and the industry I eventually want to work in when I've graduated.
